A pregnant woman and her 2 year old daughter have been killed after an Israeli airstrike caused their house to collapse in the Gaza strip early Sunday morning.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Health in Gaza said the woman, Nour Rasmi Hassan, was five months pregnant at the time of her death. Her daughter Rahaf Yahya Hassan was also killed, and three other family members were injured when their house was damaged from the airstrike near the al-Maslakh mosque in southern Gaza City.

The Israel Air Force had struck targets in the Gaza Strip after a rocket was launched at southern Israel from the enclave. It was intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system in an area south of Ashkelon and no injuries were reported.

According to a statement from the Israeli army, Israeli forces responded to Gaza's rocket with airstrikes on "two Hamas weapon manufacturing facilities in the northern Gaza Strip."

The Israeli army hold Hamas responsible for all attacks emanating from the region, despite much of the rocket fire being claimed by smaller militant groups operating in Gaza.

Earlier Saturday, however, Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri warned Israel that following a string of "war crimes", Palestinians "will defend themselves by any means possible."

The latest rocket exchange comes amid escalating violence in the Gaza Strip, with further clashes erupting between Israeli soldiers and protesters on the border of east Bureij in the central Gaza Strip this morning.

On Saturday,  Israeli forces shot dead two Palestinian boys,  Marwan Barbakh, 13, and Khalil Othman, 15, at a rally east of Khan Younis in southern Gaza. The previous day, Israeli soldiers killed seven Palestinians protesting along the border separating the territory from Israel.

With eleven Palestinians killed in Gaza since Friday the Jordanian parliament Saturday accused Israel of "state terrorism" against the Palestinian people.

"The Israeli enemy, sapping the rights of the Palestinians on their own lands... and over their holy places, is exercising state terrorism before the eyes of the whole world," the parliament said  in a statement carried by state news agency Petra.
