Three Palestinians lost their lives on Friday as Israel used lethal force as people of Gaza rallied for the 20th March of Return.

Among the dead was paramedic Abdallah Qatati, who was shot in the head as he was providing first aid to the wounded near Rafah. In a statement, The Palestinian Medical Relief Society (PMRS) has strongly condemned the killing of the Palestinian paramedic.
“Shooting medical emblems is a war crime under the 4th Geneva Convention. PMRS joins Palestinian civil society in demanding that the international community hold Israel accountable for its repeated violations of international law, including the prohibitions against the targeting of unarmed civilians and medical personnel,” the statement said.
In addition to the killing of Abdallah Qatati another eight paramedics were injured, including three PMRS medics. Ahmad Waafi, 26, and Abdelaziz Najjar, 27, suffered from a fractured leg due to a direct hit by a teargas canister and from a hand injury due to shrapnel, respectively.
The third medic, Mahmoud Abdulati, 34, was hit in the leg by what seems to be an explosive bullet which caused extensive bone and artery damage. As a consequence, the injuries might cost Abdulati his leg.
Furthermore, Friday's incident saw 307 people injured, with 70 of the protesters sustaining wounds caused by live ammunition. Out of the 307, 28 were children.
Abdallah Qatati is the third paramedic to be killed in Gaza since the beginning of the Great March of Return. On June 1 medic Razan al-Najjar was killed by an Israeli sniper east of Khan Younis in Southern Gaza. Investigations found that the medic was deliberately targeted by the Israeli soldier.
The 21-year old volunteer was shot as she was attempting to provide first aid to an injured protester. Al-Najjar, who has shot to the chest, was wearing a white vest with red emblem and PMRS logo that was marking her as medical personnel.
The death of al-Najjar came two weeks after the killing of Moussa Jaber Abu Hassanein, who was killed by an Israeli sniper near Gaza’s eastern perimeter. As both Qatati and al-Najjar Moussa Jaber Abu Hassanein was wearing clothes clearly identifying him as a medic when he was shot.
According to PMRS, another 37 medics of the organisation have been injured since the beginning of the Great March of Return. In addition, more than 245 paramedics have been injured by Israeli lethal force since the end of March.
