Two Palestinian children killed in northern Gaza strip after Israeli airstrike

Two Palestinian children were killed in an Israeli airstrike last Saturday in northern Gaza strip, Ma'an news reported.

Gaza's Ministry of Health confirmed the deaths of ten-year-old Yasin Abu Khussa and his six-year-old sister Israa, who succumbed to serious head injuries and died shortly later.

The two children were reportedly staying in their home in northwestern Beit Lahiya during the airstrike. The family still live in the same house that was partially destroyed during the Gaza war in 2014.

Israeli forces launched the airstrike targeting four Hamas sites in northern Gaza strip in response to the rockets that were fired from Gaza in the previous evening.

The rockets landed in an open area in southern Israel without causing any damages or injuries.

"Today's rocket attack is just one more example of extremist incessant efforts to threaten the security and safety of the people of Israel", Peter Lerner, Israeli Defense Force spokesman said on Twitter.

Israel says seven rockets have been fired from Gaza into Israel since January 2016, holding Hamas accountable for all the attacks from Gaza, despite the fact that much of the rockets fired last year was claimed by other militant groups based in Gaza, according to Ma'an news.

The deaths of Yasin and his sister marked the first fatalities from airstrike on Gaza since last October.

Since the increasing violence in October, more than 190 Palestinians and 30 Israelis have been killed, nearly 30 of whom were from Gaza.

The airstrike came a day after Israeli forces raided a Palestinian TV network and arrested several Palestinian journalists, accusing them of incitement of violence against Israeli military and civilians.
