A Palestinian man was shot and killed by Israeli forces Monday morning after an alleged stabbing attempt near the Lion’s Gate entrance to the Old City of Jerusalem.

The Israel Police Foreign Press Spokesman stated that the suspect pulled a knife on police officers and was shot and killed on the scene.

Though Israeli media claims the suspect attempted to stab an officer, Ma’an News Agency has reported that witnesses claimed that the man had not attempted to stab Israeli security personnel when he was shot by Israeli forces.

On Sunday evening, a Palestinian man was arrested after allegedly attempting to stab four Israelis at Alon Junction on Route 65, near Hadera, northern Israel.

One Israeli was seriously injured and three moderately injured in the attack.

Monday’s was the seventeenth in a string of knife attacks across the West Bank and Israel since Oct. 3, sixteen of which were allegedly perpetrated by Palestinians against Israelis.

At the opening of a new cultural centre in Ma’aleh Adumim Sunday, Israeli President Reuven Rivlin stated "we cannot allow terror to dictate our lives. We will neither waiver nor rest, until we restore calm and quiet to the streets of Jerusalem, to the streets of all of Israel, and to all its citizens."

Meanwhile, a wave of clashes between Palestinians and Israeli forces have swept across Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories in recent weeks.

Twenty-four Palestinians have been killed and over 1000 injured.

Al Haq, a Palestinian human rights organisation, released a statement Saturday voicing concern “about the deteriorating situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT).” The statement claims that Palestine is standing "on the brink."
