A Shepherd’s Day in the South Hebron Hills

A SHEPHERD’S DAY IN THE SOUTH HEBRON HILLS

In January 2010, Israeli soldiers attacked and injured Palestinian shepherds from the Musa Raba’i family. While grazing their sheep on privately owned Palestinian land in Humra Valley (nearby At-Tuwani, South Hebron Hills), the shepherds were observed by Israeli settlers from the outpost of Havat Ma’on. A short time later an Israeli jeep came to the area.

The soldiers attacked the shepherds (three of them were hospitalised from their injuries) and arrested Musab Musa Raba’i.

WORLDFOCUS INTERVIEWS BARGHOUTHI

Worldfocus, a nightly broadcast focused on international news, recently interviewed Mustafa Barghouthi, Secretary General of the Palestinian National Initiative. During the interview, Barghouti talked about the difficulties facing the Middle East peace process labeling it as “clinically dead." Barghouti believes stalling talks over the last decades have allowed Israel to continue its policies of illegal settlement expansions rather than work towards creating a real and lasting solution.

He also highlighted the importance of Palestinian non violence struggle against occupation, quoting it among the promising changes for the next future.

A SECTION OF THE WALL DISMANTLED DURING THE FRIDAY’S DEMONSTRATION IN NI’LIN

On the eve of the 20th Anniversary of Berlin Wall’s fall, Palestinian protestors knocked down a section of the Wall on Friday during the weekly demonstration in the West Bank village of Ni’lin. 300 demonstrators marched to the Wall and using a hydraulic car-jack, succeeded in toppling off a part of the eight meter high concrete wall before the Israeli army started to fire tear gas canisters on them.

The wall, whose construction Israel started in 2002, has not been built on the so-called Green line and at many points encroaches onto Palestinian land (West Bank) splitting communities in half and seperating people from their own land.
