Mohammad Ahmad Alawneh, 22, was shot dead Wednesday morning by Israeli security forces during an arrest raid in Birqin, West of Jenin.

Mohammad was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his wounds.

Israeli security services said they fired at the man's legs, but the hospital in Jenin which treated Mohammad confirmed he had been killed by a gunshot wound to the chest.

During the raid the Israeli security forces fired tear gas, stun grenades and live rounds 0.22 inch caliber bullets at protesters.

Ruger rifle rounds are designed to be used as a nonlethal measure to disperse violent crowds. The bullets travel up to 100 meters and contain less gunpowder than standard 5.56 mm bullets used by most infantry units in the Israeli army.

Mohammed it the 16th Palestinian to be killed by Israeli security services this year.

According to Ma’an News Agency, since the beginning of 2014, Israeli forces have injured an average of 35 Palestinians every week. In addition, Israeli settlers reportedly have carried out a further two weekly attacks on Palestinians, and an average of four incidents of damage to Palestinian property every week.

Unnamed Ma’an News Agency Sources added that Israeli forces detained journalist Muhammad Ali Atiq during the raid and in a separate raid near Jenin security forces arrested 22 year old Yasser Ghaleb Abu Jaafar.

Clashes between young Palestinians and IDF soldiers carrying out raids in Palestinian villages and refugee camps occur routinely. Eighteen people were arrested in night raids across the West Bank last night. The Israeli army  says those arrested are suspected of taking part in what they describe as ”violent disturbances.”

The army had no immediate comment on the incident.
