Barghouti: Netanyahu’s new government, most extreme, racist & hostile to peace

The new Israeli government, hammered together by Netanyahu just before the midnight deadline on Wednesday, is the most extreme and racist in Israel’s history, chief of the Palestinian National Initiative Dr. Mustafa Barghouti said on Thursday. 

The central aim of the newly formed government, argued Barghouti, is "to annex and Judaize occupied Palestinian territory, and to destroy the possibility of an independent Palestinian state, the so-called two-state solution, and any chance for lasting peace." 

Barghouti added that the new extremist governemnt won't even go as far as to pay lip service to the idea of a Palestinian state, and thus, ”there remains no pretext for any international parties to evade the pressures and the need to impose sanctions on the Israeli government in order to besiege extremism and bring it down.” 

Top PLO negotiator Saeb Erekat made similar comments to AFP on Thursday, saying that the new Israeli government “will be one of war which will be against peace."

“This government,” said Erekat, “will set its sights on killing and reinforcing settlement activities,” referring to Israel’s ongoing and expanding construction in settlements located in occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank.
