The Israeli air force struck a Hamas training facility in the Gaza strip early Saturday morning. A military spokesperson said the attack was a retaliation for a rocket fired at the south of Israel on Sunday.

Official sources in Gaza said Israeli jets hit the al-Muhararat training site south of Deir al-Balah and open land south of Khan Younis, Ma’an News reported.

No casualties were reported. However, the airstrikes reportedly caused material damages.

On Sunday evening a rocket was fired at the south of Israel, landing in an open field near the border with Gaza. No casualties or damages were reported.

Even though there were yet no claims of responsibility for the rocket attack, the IDF spokesperson said Hamas is “solely responsible for events in Gaza”. The IDF “will continue to act firmly to maintain quiet in southern towns”, he added.

Since the beginning of January six rockets have been fired from Gaza. The IDF responded by targeting Hamas facilities in retaliatory attacks. According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the IDF made at least 56 incursions into the Gaza strip in 2015.
