Invited by Canadian political party Quebec Solidaire to participate in the Parliamentarian and Local Councillors’ Forum on August 10 2016 in Montreal, Canada within the framework of the World Social Forum, Dr. Mustafa Barghouti, Palestinian MP and chairman of the Palestinian National Initiative movement, was not granted a visa by the Canadian authorities as of yet and will not be able to attend the forum as planned as a result, like countless other Arab and African civil society members and social movement figures who were one after the other denied or not granted visas to attend the event.

According to the WSF’s 2016 website, “The goal of the goal of the WSF 2016 is to gather tens of thousands of people from groups in civil society, organizations and social movements who want to build a sustainable and inclusive world, where every person and every people has its place and can make its voice heard.” Considering the unmistakable pattern of visa denial to representatives from Arab and African nations, one can legitimately wonder about the Canadian authorities’ vision for an inclusive world.
