The Israeli army razed 11 Palestinian homes in Qalandia and the surrounding area on Monday night and into the morning Tuesday. Later on Tuesday, a woman was shot in the legs at Qalandia checkpoint while allegedly attempting to stab a soldier. The IDF released a statement which stated that “security guards at the Qalandia checkpoint spotted the suspect approaching them and called to stop several times. When she continued to run towards they initiated an arrest procedure and fired into the lower torso." The statement also asserted that a knife was later found in the suspect’s bag. She was described by the police as “conscious.”
The home demolitions, which took place earlier in the day, have not been officially linked to the alleged stabbing attack. The Israeli army had notified the families on Monday that their homes were slated to be destroyed, according to sources. The reason given for the demolitions was their proximity to the Israeli-built segregation wall. PalInfo reported that three young men sustained bullet wounds during clashes sparked by the demolitions, while four others suffered from tear gas inhalation. In clashes in Abu Dis east of Jerusalem, 30 other young men suffered bullet and tear gas injuries, according to the Red Crescent.
