Israeli security forces claim to have captured five Hamas members accused of killing two Israeli settlers last week.

Eitam and Naama Henkin were shot and killed as they drove between the Israeli settlements of Itamar and Elon Moreh on Oct. 1.

The Nablus area was put under lockdown following the attack, and four extra Israel Defense Forces (IDF) battalions were sent to the area to assist in the search for those responsible for the attack.

The Abdel Qader al-Husseini Brigades, a group affiliated with Fatah’s al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, initially claimed responsibility.

The five Hamas members have been named as cell leader Ra’eb Ahmad Mohammed Aliwi, 37, alongside Ziad Amar, 26, Samir Kousa, 33, Yahiya Hajj Hamed, 24, and Karem Razek, 23, all of whom are residents of Nablus.

Razek was accidentally injured during the shooting. Video footage released shows Israeli security forces entering the Nablus hospital where Razek was receiving treatment and arresting him.

Israel’s internal security force, The Shin Bet, has stated that the five Hamas members confessed to the attack during interrogation. They reported that the attack was planned in advance.
