Residents of northern Gaza move south after the Israeli military warned of more air strikes on Sunday

More than 200 Palestinians have been killed and at least 1,550 injured since Israel launched 'Operation Protective Edge’ last Tuesday. As of Wednesday evening, the death toll stood at 214, Haaretz reported.

Four Palestinian boys died after a shell fired from an Israeli gun ship landed on them next to the port in Gaza City at 4.30 PM local time. Ahed Baker, 11, Muhammad Baker, 11, Zakaria Baker, 10, and Ismail Baker, 9, who all come from the same well-known fisher family in Gaza, were taken to their mothers and were buried shortly after.

“Israel claims it is attacking Hamas, but in reality it is killing children," Dr Mustafa Barghouti told Palestine Monitor. At least 6 children have been killed today. According to the United Nations 80 per cent of the total death toll were civilians.

At least eleven Palestinians died in Israeli airstrikes during the early hours of Wednesday after an Egypt-mediated ceasefire broke down on Tuesday. Hamas, who says it wasn’t consulted on the terms of the agreement, continued firing rockets from Gaza. Later on Tuesday Israel resumed its bombings on the besieged strip.

One Israeli civilian died after he was critically wounded from shrapnel at the Erez Crossing to Gaza. The 37-year-old became the first Israeli casualty of the conflict, Haaretz reported.

Israel struck 30 houses on the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, destroying the home of one Hamas political leader and targeting the houses of four other Hamas officials, according to Al Jazeera. At least seven people were killed on early Wednesday, including a 10-year-old boy and a 65-year-old woman.

Flyers were dropped in the Zaytoun area southeast of Gaza City, urging residents to leave before 8 a.m,Ma’an News reported. In addition the inhabitants of Shujaiyya neighborhood received phone calls urging them to evacuate towards central Gaza.

According to a translation by Al Jazeera’s live blog, the Israeli forces stated in the phone calls that “Anyone who violates these orders and does not evacuate immediately, his life and the lives of his family members will be in danger and those who have warned will not be excused.”

The blog added that residents were given five minutes to evacuate after they received the message. The Gaza Interior Ministry has dismissed the warnings as psychological warfare.

The Israeli militarysaid 17 rockets were fired towards Israel since last night. Ten of them were intercepted. Meanwhile, Israeli forces carried out 75 strikes on the Gaza Strip.

According to Al Jazeera’s John Hendren reporting from Gaza, the UN has warned of a potential humanitarian crisis on the strip. People who have left the northern areas of the enclave are now “putting extra strain on the water and power infrastructure in the Gaza city,” he said.

More than 17,000 civilians have arrived to UNRWA shelters, according to the organization’s Twitter account. Hendren reports that so many have sought refuge at the UNRWA schools that some people have to camp outside.
