The Israeli Air Force launched an airstrike in the northern Gaza Strip early Monday morning, in response to rocket fire from the besieged territory.

In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces said they targeted a Hamas terror site in Gaza, adding that it holds Hamas responsible for all attacks from the region.

According to Ma'an News, the strike hit a training site for Hamas' military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, in northern Gaza.

No injuries were reported.

The attack was a response to two rockets fired from the Gaza Strip directed towards Israel late Sunday evening. One hit an open area in southern Israel while another exploded within Gaza.

On Tuesday, Israeli planes struck a number of targets in Gaza after a rocket was launched from the enclave toward the southern Israel city of Ashdod. The rocket was intercepted by the Iron Defense system and no damage or casualties were caused.

The rocket fire comes as tensions heighten in Jerusalem and the West Bank, with clashes breaking out between Palestinians and Israeli soldiers and settlers leaving 220 Palestinians injured.
