The Israeli army is continuing its campaign of collective punishment against the Palestinian people in retribution for the disappearance of three Israeli teens, Mustafa Barghouti told Palestine Monitor on Satuday in an exclusive statement to the press.

“These are attacks against the entire Palestinian population, not just Hamas,” said Barghouti.

“The disappearance of the three settler boys has given Netanyahu an excuse to conduct a massive pre-planned campaign of collective punishment against the Palestinian people,” he said.

Barghouti said that over the past few days of raids, Israeli armed forces have raided three Palestinian universities: Birzeit Univerity near Ramallah, Polytechnic University in Hebron, and the Arab American University in Jenin.

In addition to its violation of the integrity of academic campuses, Barghouti said, the Israeli military has also laid complete economic siege to the districts of Hebron and Nablus. Approximately one million people are locked in their sealed within their own districts, he said, and are prevented from reaching any other points in the West Bank. Experts estimate the siege on Hebron alone costs its residents about $12 million every day, Barghouti said.

The Israeli army is also attacking peaceful demonstrators with live ammunition, Barghouti told Palestine Monitor. Since Israel’s crackdown throughout the West Bank began last Friday, members of the Israeli military have killed four Palestinian citizens.

Israeli forces shot and killed 14-year-old Mahmoud Jihad Muhammad Dudeen early Friday morning during a raid on the southern West Bank village of Dura, near Hebron. The boy was reportedly struck in the chest with live bullets. He died shortly after arriving to the hospital.

Mustafa Aslan, 22, was shot in the head with live ammunition by Israeli forces during a pre-dawn raid on the Qalandiya refugee camp, just outside Ramallah, on Friday.

Early Saturday morning, an elderly man from the village of Haris in the salfit district of the West Bank reportedly died of a heart attack during a heated argument with Israeli soldiers as they raided his home.

Ahamd Sabarin, 20, was shot directly in the chest with live ammunition during a night raid on Sunday in the Jalazone refugee camp, near Ramallah.

Israeli troops have conducted a severe crackdown on Palestinian media as well, said Barghouti, including a massive incursion into the PALMEDIA offices in Ramallah, in addition to a variety of other media offices in Hebron and Nablus.

The army has ransacked approximately 30 charitable associations across the West Bank, Barghouti told Palestine Monitor

Since Israel’s campaign of mass raids and arrests began last week, more than 400 Palestinians have been detained, which brings the total number of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails to about 5,500, including 20 popularly elected members of the Palestinian parliament, Barghouti said.

According to statistics compiled by the Palestinian National Initiative, Israeli troops have raided more than 1,600 Palestinian households, tearing entire rooms apart, overturning furniture, tearing holes in walls, and generally leaving homes in shambles after they leave.
