A video has been released showing ongoing construction in multiple Israeli settlements in the West Bank, in defiance of the latest UN Security Council Resolution.
On December 23rd, 2016, The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) adopted the resolution 2334.
The resolution passed with a 14-0 vote by members of the UNSC. The United States, which holds a veto power, abstained. The resolution states that Israel′s settlement activity constitutes a "flagrant violation" of international law and has "no legal validity". It demands that Israel stop such activity and fulfills its obligations as an occupying power under the Fourth Geneva Convention.
Following the vote, the Israeli government confirmed its intention to limit relations with the countries that supported this resolution.
Netanyahu reacted strongly, saying “Israel rejects this shameful anti-Israel resolution at the UN and will not abide by its terms’’. Indeed, this can already be seen. Ahmad Al-Bazz, a photographer from the collective Activestills, published a video on 2nd January 2017, that shows ongoing construction in the settlements of Ariel and Leshem in the West Bank. While the demolition of the illegal Amona outpost in the West Bank was planned for the 25th December 2016, this has not yet taken place. On 2nd January 2017, the Israeli Army approved moving Amona to adjacent lots on Palestinian land.
