Two Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces in the West Bank city of Hebron on Thursday morning after an alleged stabbing attack that left one Israeli soldier wounded.

The attempted attack, carried out by two Palestinians against an Israeli soldier, took place near a military checkpoint in the neighborhood of Tel Rumeida in Hebron's Old City.

Israeli forces responded and shot dead the two Palestinians at the scene, while the wounded Israeli soldier was evacuated to hospital in moderate conditions, IDF spokesperson Peter Lerner said on Twitter.

The two Palestinians were later identified as Ramzi Aziz al-Qasrawi and Abed al-Fattah Yusri al-Sharif, both 21 years old.

In graphic footage released by rights group B’Tselem, one of the two Palestinians, Abed al-Sharif, is seen shot in the head by an Israeli soldier, minutes after he was left wounded, lying motionless on the ground.

A voice is heard in the video saying “This terrorist is still alive, this dog”, Haaretz reported.

The video shows the evacuation of the wounded Israeli soldier by the paramedics, while al-Sharif was surrounded by heavily armed Israeli soldiers, posing no imminent threat to the forces. One of the soldiers then aimed at al-Sharif, and shot him dead.

Two soldiers were spotted nearby but moved further away from al-Sharif’s corpse after he was shot.

A Military Police investigation has been opened after findings from initial investigation, according to the IDF Spokesman’s Unit. The soldier responsible for the killing of al-Sharif has been suspended from his position following the incident.

The IDF has not taken any immediate steps regarding the two bystanding soldiers who witnessed the preparation of the killing and did not stop it.

The incident comes only two days as Israeli settlers attended celebrations in the Old City's Ibrahimi Mosque, also known to Jews as the Tomb of the Patriarchs, on late Tuesday. Locals recounted to Ma'an News how settlers "provocatively" sang racist songs that call for "the expulsion of Arabs from Hebron".

Palestinians were reportedly banned from entering the mosque during the celebrations. Surrounding area was also put under restricted access, with protection of Israeli military forces.

Since last October 2015, Hebron has been the site where a number of small-scale attacks by Palestinians against Israeli military targets took place.

At least 203 Palestinians and 30 Israelis have been killed during the recent wave of violence.

Palestinian Authority has been criticized for failing to condemn the increasing number of attacks carried out by Palestinians, the majority of which against Israeli soldiers, while Israel has also bolstered security measures such as more frequent search and arrest operations.
